Bio

Character Name: Kida (Queen Kidagakash)

Series: Disney’s Atlantis

Gender: Female

Age: 8,800 (biologically about 28)

Species: Human

Sexuality: Female, straight, taken

Appearance: Physically Kida is a strange racial mix by appearance. She has skin almost dark enough to be African and the nose shape (not size) for it. Her blue eyes are somewhat slanted like someone from Asia, but the overall eyeshape isn’t almond. Atlanteans in general often have some facial characteristics that are somewhat Native American, though it varies. Kida has a long face and brown eyebrows, but long, somewhat shaggy white hair. Kida shows a lot of skin, but only because of the muggy climate she comes from. She wears a blue skirt-sarong and tubetop. For an Atlantean she wears a lot of jewelry (ie a large right earring, two anklets on her right leg, an armlet high on her left arm, and a blue crystal necklace, the latter worn by all Atlanteans). She also bears a blue tattoo on her left cheek consisting of a dot and two curves.

Personality: Kida is a kind person, but bluntly truthful. She has a bit of a spunky attitude at times and has a playful and curious side. She won’t hesitate to casually touch others (in a G-rated manner) in conversation to either make a point or to investigate something that intrigues her. (She removed Milo’s glasses in the film to try them on herself.) Kida is eager to learn about the world around her, particularly if it pertains to her city. It is quite likely she’s learned some things about the surface over the past century from Milo, but the world has changed greatly since the 1930’s (Atlantis: Milo’s Return). However, if things are not explained very clearly, Kida may misinterpret the significance of new objects and people around her. Her curiosity also leads to a fairly trusting nature, since she easily becomes dependant on others to explain about other cultures and customs. Certain stigmas in this culture don’t apply to her. For instance, she once hunted insect-like creatures to feed her people, and she also removed her skirt in front of Milo to go swimming, unknowing of the connotations that would have in American culture. Kida does not flaunt her royal status, seeing it more as a duty and notes the fact the Mother Crystal will only accept those with royal blood as hosts. Kida is thus somewhat of a spiritual leader, and may make comments pertaining to her religion (as well as a few Atlantean exclamations). That being said, first and foremost she’s altruistic and has and will put her life on the line for her people and her friends. Kida displays very genuine concern for others and their well-being.

Abilities: (For superhuman powers/strength/abilities, describe how they will be limited) Kida ages slowly due to her crystal, something each Atlantean has since they are babies. These items are deeply sacred to Atlanteans, as they are part of the Mother Crystal, a being they worship. In canon, Kida uses her crystal to heal someone’s badly torn shoulder with only some concentration. Here (and surely due to her distance from the crystal) she’d still age slowly, but her healing power is limited. The more severe the wound, the more it takes out of her, and a potentially life-threatening wound could cause her to pass out.

Physically, however, Kida is still has a background of being a hunter and warrior before becoming queen, and has millennia of experience to back her up. Though very much within human limits, she’d certainly give athletes a run for their money. Like any Atlantean hunter, she’s a skilled pole-vaulter.

Atlanteans can speak many languages (ranging from Latin to English) but until this past century they were unable to write even their own language.

Weaknesses: What Kida doesn’t know could hurt her. Though intelligent, Kida is very naïve of the surface world (since Atlantis sank into a subterranean cavern where the city has survived for eons). A city with buildings made of “clear crystal” that towered as high as mountains would be totally alien to her, as would a real sky.

It’s also likely she’ll have difficulty reading English quickly and would have to sound things out to make sense of it.

Kida is also trusting until betrayed (then once bitten twice shy). She’s an optimist who will look for the best in people, sometimes heedless of danger.

To protect Atlantis, she also cannot confirm its existence to anyone, meaning she cannot reveal her whole background. One would have to gain a great deal of trust from her for her to share this information, if at all.

Kida is unfamiliar with modern weapons, and though she knows of guns and what they’re capable of, she has little idea how to use one.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider.

History: Atlantis: The Lost Empire and publications:
Thousands of years ago, Atlantis tried to use a being called the Mother Crystal, a creature that fell from the sky, to power weapons to conquer other nations. When a superweapon backfired, the city of Atlantis was nearly destroyed. Kida watched her mother, the queen, become host to the Mother Crystal when she was a very young child. Her mother’s act saved the city from the cataclysm that wiped Atlantis from the face of the planet, sinking the city and preserving it deep within the earth, where the Crystal created an ecosystem to support the city. To try to ensure no one would try to use it as a weapon again, the king hid the Crystal and forbade reading and writing, and the culture slowly began to die. 1000 years ago the streets were lit. At the turn of the last century, the culture was reduced to “savaging for food at the edge of a crumbling city.” Kida had grown up among the people, and as a protector of the city, she carried out the king’s orders to keep outsiders from discovering Atlantis (and it’s legendary power source). She was a hunter to help feed the dying civilization. When she found an expedition in 1914 that had a member that could speak Atlantean, she believed they could help her city. When some of the newcomers betrayed Atlantis to try to steal the Crystal and killed her father, the king, Kida sacrificed herself to it to help save the city. (If bonded to it too long, she would have been permanently absorbed like her mother was). Thanks to Milo Thatch and some loyal expedition members, the crystal was restored, and Milo stayed behind to aid in the restoration of Atlantis (and was announced dead on the surface).

Atlantis: Milo’s Return
Atlanteans are relearning their language and the city is being rebuilt. Kida travels to the surface with Milo to see if there is a link between mysterious phenomena and her city. After various events, she finds an Atlantean artifact that raises the city to the surface.
